You’ll love the UPIS ‘97 Parang Olympics!

UPIS Batch ‘97 held a fun, family-friendly virtual race inspired by the Tokyo Olympics to raise funds for UPIS scholars.


A total of 68 alumni and their families joined in from Manila to Melbourne, Dubai, New York, Virginia, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Singapore and more. The event raised almost Php24,000.

From July 29 to August 7, 2021, batchmates from six different countries competed in four categories:

  • 5K walk/run

  • 10K walk/run

  • 15K bike ride

  • 30K bike ride

All around the world, Batch ‘97 participants joined the fun—from Manila to Melbourne, Dubai, New York, Virginia, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Singapore and more. 

Winners received ALAB UP shirts, caps, towels and backpacks, Joy in a Bottle inhalers, and a pair of exclusive hand-painted ALAB UP sneakers.

Sherwin Perdigon bagged the gold medal for both the 10K walk/run and 15K bike ride. In the women’s category, Frances Hernandez got gold for the 15K bike ride and Misha Enriquez for the 10K walk/run.

Imee Sioco and Pheng Flaminiano snagged the silver medal for the 10K walk/run, and Micah Enriquez and Glariz Febe Laurete won silver for the 15K bike ride.

For the 30K bike ride, gold medal winners were Gladaiza May Laurete and Soy Cipriano. Eron Romero secured the silver medal.

TJ Medrana and Therese Natividad took home the gold for the 5K walk/run, while Von Consulta and AL Cruz Reyes won silver.

The rest of the winners were:

  • Best bib design: Soy Cipriano and Ynigo Santos 

  • Most likes on their Facebook post: Dennis Paquino

  • First to complete and submit their race result: Mariel Panlasigui-Artigas 

  • Biggest family group: April Joy Cruz and Ellaine Cantuba-Napiza

  • Closest guess of the Tokyo Olympics’ #1 country winner and number of gold medals: Rafael Natividad and Tobias Hermeno

  • Raffle draw prize for hand-painted sneakers: Riley Mears

Proceeds will benefit the UPIS ‘97 homecoming initiatives, which include supporting UPIS scholars.
